There's a whole new ball game on the go around the world in the online gambling industry. As Michael Graydon, the President and CEO of the British Columbia Lotteries Commission (BCLC), currently sent out a very thought-provoking press release, alluding to British Columbia Lotteries Commission's target to get ready for online casino games through its website, PlayNow.com by the year 2010.
The move by British Columbia to offer blackjack, poker, roulette and other online casino games will be the first such move in North America."Rather than it all going to offshore places like Antigua, there's an opportunity to keep it here in British Columbia," Michael Graydon said.
Michael Graydon also declared with confidence that the BCLC has what it takes to remain competitive with the most successful and established online casinos in business.
Moreover, The British Columbia Lotteries Commission also offers online sports betting, lottery and horse-racing bets. The inclusion of government regulated online casino is a new and conspicuous move and is the first of its kind in Canada, as well as the first in all of North America.
The move however is being debated, since the PlayNow.com website which is primarily owned by the British Columbia Lottery Corporation has divulged plans to jack up the weekly play limit to $10,000 from $120. This came with much high-priority press from various sources.
The changes was announced in presentiments of the online casino offerings. The British Columbia Lottery Corporation feels it will be able to gain part of the estimated $87,000,000 that gamblers in the province already spend on unregulated or taxed offshore operations.
In conformity with the introduction of online casino games in 2010, the British Columbia has also been rolling out a ground breaking responsible gaming program, which will number among online and television messages.
Other jurisdictions around the world are starting to catch on to the large revenue stream that can be created by online casinos. They are starting to believe it is better for them to receive the money, than some offshore operation.
